PG Tips - Monkey Queen's Speech

I came up with the strategy, the creative, co-wrote the script, and art directed the costumes/set design. This was the first time Monkey dressed up - and he's been expanding his wardrobe ever since!

The ad picked up a Golden Arrow at the British Television Advertising Awards - despite having never actually been on Television?!

The Brief

PG Tips had shot a spoof Morecambe & Wise sketch, with Johnny Vegas & Monkey.

This was to be screened in a one-off TV slot on Christmas day.

They wanted an advent calendar to count down to this, to be put on their website.

The Real Problem

PG Tips had gone all in on an ad that was only going to be played once.

Problem is... how is anybody going to know to tune in and watch it?

The Solution

The PG Tips website was getting 20-odd visitors a day. We needed to reach a much larger audience, and fast!

So I scrapped the advent calendar, and pitched a viral video instead.

Monkey delivers a Queen's Speech, telling us where and when to watch the TV sketch.

Or at least, that's what he was TRYING to do...
